International School of Uganda (ISU), has been offering a holistic education in Uganda for 49 years (founded in 1967) and has from the beginning been dedicated to student success. It is a not for- profit school owned by the parents and teachers. ISU students represent over 60 nationalities including Ugandans and students are accepted for entry all through the year. ISU is very proud of its multi-cultural diversity and celebrates it with many events including an annual Festival of World Cultures. ISU is the only school in Uganda offering all three International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes. We are accredited by both the Council of International Schools (UK) and Middle States Association (USA). The IB programme establishes a common curriculum and a university entry credential for geographically mobile students. ISU graduating students have been successfully accepted to over 240 universities all over the world and is one of the few international schools which provide a learning experience from early years to the end of secondary school. The Early Childhood Center is for students aged 2.5 - 4, the Primary Years Programme (PYP) is for students aged 5–10, the Middle Years Programme, for students aged 11–16 and the Diploma Programme for students aged 16–19. The IB course of study is an internationally recognized qualification for university entrance in any country. For more information please visit our website at www.isu.ac.ug. ISU has 64 full time experienced and highly qualified teachers, most of whom are certified in Britain, America or Canada. Almost half the teachers hold post-graduate degrees including 20 with masters and 2 with doctorates. All teachers are offered the opportunity for professional development during their time at ISU. ==World class education== The purpose-built 33 acre campus is the best in Uganda. ISU has 2 music rooms with lessons available for piano, cello, violin, flute and many others including traditional Ugandan instruments. Three football fields and a 400m track, a 25m swimming pool and a learner pool with a life guard on duty, four tennis courts, two outdoor basketball courts, an indoor sports hall with a rock climbing wall, an art lab, a design technology workshop with modern equipment including a 3D printer for carpentry and a theatre lab. Resources are allocated to directly support and be responsive to student needs no matter the learning style to provide holistic education in surroundings that are conducive to emotional, physical and academic success. Access to the campus in Lubowa on Entebbe Road is made easier by seventeen new air-conditioned buses (over 14 routes) that pick up students each morning and drop them off the end of the school day from the main residential areas in Kampala and Entebbe. Staff also have a bus that provides transport to the campus. This location is one of the main reasons the campus has such healthy air as there is no barrier to Lake Victoria down the hill. The trees, gardens and greenery all over campus make it an ideal show case for lessons on environmental conservation. ISU is a Wi-Fi enabled campus to support student learning and the one– to- one laptop programme in the senior school. Student reports, homework, assignments and deadlines are available online for parents to monitor and students to access. The first class Library has over 20.000 volumes, 60+ different periodical subscriptions and a large reference section. The library has an extensive collection of Ugandan authors as well as books in other languages. Teachers and students have access to a wide-range of print and non-print information resources. ISU fosters in students a love of reading and the development of life-long learning abilities. The state of the art science centre is being put to great use as evidenced by the fact that ISU won the International Schools of Southern and Eastern Africa (ISSEA) Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Competition 2015! The girls’ football team and the girls’ basketball team are the ISSEA champions 2015. Go Leopards! ISU is a leader in providing world-class, holistic education in a multi-cultural setting, inspiring and equipping students to be life-long learners, to reach their full potential and to be responsible global citizens active in shaping the future.
